A postmaster has fought off an attacker who claimed to be carrying a gun.

The incident happened about 0830 GMT on Wednesday at the Park Road Post Office, on the Parks estate in Belper, Derbyshire.

The would-be robber threatened the owner, saying he had a gun.

After being fought off by the owner, the intruder left empty handed.

No-one was injured in the incident.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

Their suspect is described as about 40 years old, around 5 ft 6 in tall, with long hair.
