Mosque cleric's son in court

Abu Hamza has been banned from the mosque
A son of Muslim cleric Abu Hamza has appeared in court accused of trying to burgle the mosque, from which his father has been banned from preaching.

Mohammed Kamel, 21, from west London is alleged to have climbed the wall of Finsbury Park Mosque in north London on Tuesday night.

Also appearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Thursday were Mustafa Abdullah, 21, of south London, Abdullah Merchant, 26, of north London, and a 16-year-old youth.

All four were charged with conspiracy to commit criminal damage, conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The court heard the four men are accused of trying to retrieve books belonging to the 16-year-old from the mosque.

Three of the defendants were granted bail.

Mr Abdullah, did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

All the defendants are expected to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 20 February.

Abu Hamza was removed from his position at the mosque by the Charity Commission - the North London Central Mosque Trust is a registered charity.
