Hospital deals with stomach bug outbreak
Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital
About 20 patients are still affected
A hospital that is dealing with a major outbreak of sickness hopes to get things back to normal by Monday.

Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has had to cancel surgery after patients contracted a stomach bug.

About 20 patients and 90 staff are still affected by a virus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

But no new cases have been reported since Tuesday.

'Difficult decision'

Staff at the hospital hope everything will be back to normal by Monday.

Medical director Dr Iain Brooksby said: "We have had to take a difficult decision to cancel routine in-patients, but we believe it is the only responsible decision in the circumstances.

"Clearly we can only apologise to those patients who have had their treatment cancelled and we will be aiming to re-admit them as soon as we can."

The hospital asked that people avoid visiting the premises to prevent inadvertently spreading the bug and to wash their hands if they do come in for an appointment.
