Passengers face major Tube delays
Tube passengers
Only one line is running properly at the moment
London commuters faced a nightmare journey into work on Thursday after a series of signal failures crippled the London Underground network.

Of the 12 Tube lines, only the Dockland Light Railway was unaffected.

London Underground said the failure of a signalling control computer at Baker Street as well as another signal failure at South Harrow has resulted in the severe delays.

The worst affected was the Circle Line, which was suspended but is suffering delays.

Emergency engineering

But buses in central London are accepting Tube tickets.

The problems were compounded by emergency engineering work at Oxford Circus which has affected the Victoria Line.

The delays were further affected by the suspension of service on both the Central Line and Waterloo and City Line following a derailment at Chancery Lane on 25 January.

A spokesman for London Underground said: "We are experiencing severe delays on the network this morning.

"We have engineers out at the scene and are endeavouring to solve the problems as quickly as possible.

"The computer problem is pretty bad. This is a very important area."
