Armed officers patrol Jersey's airport
The situation at the airport will continue to be monitored
Armed police and extra uniformed officers have been patrolling Jersey Airport after intelligence information was received from the UK.
The move follows Tuesday's announcement of a security threat to Heathrow which saw troops, tanks and extra police on patrol at the capital's busiest airport. Senior police officers in Jersey have decided to strengthen the security measures at the airport. The officers will patrol the airport at St Peter from Wednesday night in what Chief Officer Graham Power describes as a "precautionary measure". He said there is no specific threat to Jersey Airport or the island and that the situation will be monitored and re-assessed by the police on a daily basis. Security at Jersey Airport was stepped up following the September 11 terrorist attacks. Armed officers were seen there for the first time during last summer's British-Irish council meeting.
