Revenge theory over Thai murder
Arthur James Green
Mr Green's body was found in a river
Police in Thailand believe a North Yorkshire grandfather may have been murdered because he insulted his attackers.

Arthur James Green, 63, originally from Ripon, was shot three times in the back and stabbed twice during a weekend attack at his home in Thailand.

His body was then dumped on the banks of the nearby Mae Klong river.

Police in the Thai town of Ratchaburi - about 60 miles west of Bangkok - now believe the attack on the grandfather-of-six was planned.

Mr Green recently moved to Asia after retiring as a construction engineer but a theory that he was killed by hired hitmen has been ruled out.

Instead officers are focussing on an incident that occurred the day before his death when Mr Green allegedly fired a slingshot at two youths he found loitering in his garden.

Mr Green's wife Yukhonporn, who was kidnapped during the raid but later released, told police he hit one of them in the back.

She believes her husband may have been killed in response to the loss of face the incident caused to the youths.

Police believe the attackers were local and have revealed they have a partial image of one of them using Mrs Green's stolen cash card.
