Man in court over wife's death
A 46-year-old County Antrim man has been remanded in custody charged with killing his wife on Monday.

Adrian Stuart Baird, from Skerry View, Loughloughan Road, Broughshane, is accused of murdering Katrina Baird, 40, at a house near the village where she worked as a nanny.

A detective sergeant told Ballymena Magistrates Court on Wednesday that when charged, Mr Baird said: "I didn't mean to kill my wife."

The police officer said he believed he could connect him to the charge.

He confirmed to the court that, during two days of interviews, Adrian Baird had said consistently that he had no intention of killing his wife.

A defence solicitor said: "My client surrendered himself to the police immediately after this incident happened."

The body of the mother of three was discovered in the courtyard of her employers' house on the Buckna Road at 1145 GMT on Monday.

Mr Baird, a civilian employee of the police service, worked as an armourer with the force.
