Gas leak closes primary school
Trehopcyn Primary school
The gas leak was found at Trehopcyn Primary School
Primary school pupils were ordered to stay home on Wednesday after a gas leak was discovered in the playground.

Children at Trehopcyn Primary School in Hopkinstown near Pontypridd were told the school would be closed while essential repairs to repair a leaking gas pipe were carried out.

The school will be open as usual tomorrow

The leak was discovered after the 127 pupils left for the day on Tuesday.

Head teacher Peter O'Donnell said the leak was near the meter on the playground where the gas supply entered the premises.

Transco engineers were called in to seal off the leak, and the school had to be closed while repairs were being carried out.

"The engineers came first thing this morning to replace the pipe," said Mr O'Donnell.

"The gas was smelt yesterday near the gas meter on the playground after the children had gone home for the day.

"We informed Transco straight away.

"The school will be open as usual tomorrow," he added.

The school in Plymouth Road is co-educational for children aged three to 11.
