Murder charge after street attack
Mark Donnelly was charged with the killing of Patrick Neenan on Tuesday and remanded in custody. Mr Donnelly, 36, from Cheshire Avenue, Ancoats, Manchester was due to appear before magistrates on Wednesday. Mr Neenan, 43, who was known as Paddy, died in Manchester Royal Infirmary last Friday after his relatives agreed his life support machine should be switched off. He had been in a coma for five days after being assaulted on Sunday 2 February in Old Mill Street. 'Mother died' Mr Neenan had been drinking in The Stadium pub with a friend before the attack. Mr Neenan's wife, 41-year-old Tracy, said he was a "hard working family man who adored his two sons". "It had been a difficult time for him recently, because his mum had just died, and her funeral was on the Friday (31 January)," said Mrs Neenan. "He will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
