Christmas drowning: men released on bail
Bridgwater Canal in Somerset
Peter Wadland's body was found in Bridgwater Canal
Two men arrested in connection with the death of a man who drowned in a canal in Bridgwater at Christmas have been released on police bail.

The body of Peter Wadland was found by a passer-by in Bridgwater Canal on the morning of Christmas Day.

A post-mortem examination found the 55-year-old had drowned after falling into the water, and his death was not thought to be suspicious.

But after new information came to light on 8 February, two men were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Witnesses sought

The men, who have not been named, were questioned by police for more than 48 hours.

They have now been released on police bail.

Officers investigating Mr Wadland's death want to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious near Bridgwater Canal at the time.

They ask people who were in the area between Halswell Close and the canal between the evening of Christmas Eve and the early hours of Christmas Day to contact them.
