Delayed take-off for new airline
Four Jet2 Boeings will be based at the airport
The first flight of Yorkshire's new low-cost airline, Jet2, was delayed on Wednesday because of poor weather conditions.
The inaugural trip from Leeds Bradford International Airport was due leave at 0700 GMT. But freezing fog at its destination in Amsterdam delayed the take off until 0800 GMT. Eventually the company will be operating flights to seven European destinations including Barcelona, Nice, Majorca and Alicante. But Jet2 will have competition on the Alicante service from another low-cost carrier based at Leeds Bradford, Planet Air, which will be running summer services to the Spanish resort. It is hoped the new no-frills flights will boost passenger numbers at Leeds Bradford. The airport suffered a blow in December when British Airways announced it was withdrawing services from the airport.
