The diplomatic row over Iraq became even more complicated.

Nato's ambassadors met again to try to patch up their row over Turkey.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Colin Powell accused Belgium, France and Germany of using Nato as a political tool to push their arguments at the United Nations against a quick use of force.

And the Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, said plans to avert a war by sending more weapons inspectors to Iraq wouldn't work.
