Posh Spice due at Tyneside première
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham will be the guest of Patsy Kensit
Victoria Beckham is due to be among the celebrity guests attending the premier of a British film on Tyneside.

She is to be the guest of Patsy Kensit, who stars in the football comedy, The One and Only.

The film, shot in and around Newcastle, opens nationwide on 21 February, but the première will take place three days earlier at the city's Odeon cinema.

Dubbed the Notting Hill of the north, the film also features Justine Waddell, Richard Roxburgh and Donna Air.

The One and Only
The Onle and Only was filmed in Newcastle

The film, based on the Danish film Den Eneste Ene, is directed by Simon Cellan Jones, whose previous television work includes Storm Damage for the BBC.

Filmmakers say they wanted a Tyneside première after enjoying the seven-week shoot in and around Newcastle.

Patsy Kensit is flying into Tyneside from Los Angeles for the event.

In the film she plays feisty party girl Stella.

She said: "I had a bit of an insider's track on this role as my children's nanny is a Geordie, so I'm used to hearing the accent day in, day out."

'Amazing time'

The story is set mainly on Newcastle's quayside, with key locations including the new Millennium Bridge.

Producer Leslee Udwin said: "We had the most amazing time filming in Newcastle and Gateshead.

"The place is so buzzing and energetic and generous and warm and really the film is very celebratory of the region."

It is hoped The One and Only will help boost the Newcastle Gateshead bid to become European Capital of Culture 2008.
