Man seen running from murder house
Vera Moore
Mrs Moore was found strangled to death
Police investigating the murder of a Nottingham pensioner are appealing for a man seen running from the road where she lived to come forward.

The body of Vera Moore, was found at her semi-detached home in the Beeston area of Nottingham, by her daughter in 17 January.

The man police want to trace ran from Hassocks Lane, where 83-year-old Mrs Moore lived, and onto Queen's Road.

He was seen at around 1730 GMT on 16 January and the next morning Mrs Moore's body was found by her daughter.

The man is described as white, between 17 and 20 years old, around 5ft 6ins to 5ft 9ins tall, with short brown hair and of medium build. He was wearing a grey jacket.

Detective Chief Inspector Mick Cleminson said: "I am appealing for this person to come forward so we can rule him out of the investigation, or if anyone saw a person fitting this description in the area two weeks ago.

"It is two weeks since Vera was last seen in the Queen's Road area and we are continuing house to house enquiries to try and jog residents' memories.

"We are also working with Boots, Nottingham University and Siemens to get a witness appeal message on their company intranet systems, which could be online very soon."

Although there was no sign of a forced entry at her home, her black leather purse was missing, prompting concerns she was killed by a burglar.

Police patrols have been stepped up on the estate to reassure residents.

Meanwhile, Mrs Moore's American nephew, Alan Moore, 36, has put up a $1,000 (£650) reward for information leading to the conviction of her murderer.
