Policeman released from hospital
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward
A policeman whose ankle was broken when he was dragged along a road by a car has been released from hospital.
Sergeant David Tye was flung into a street in Crowborough, East Sussex, at 2230 GMT on Wednesday by the car which failed to stop. A spokesman for Sussex Police said the officer, who has 15 years service, had approached the dark blue Peugeot 405 estate in Queens Road. The spokesman said: "He put his arm inside the driver's open window to remove the key and the driver sped off at high speed. Abrasions "Sgt Tye was dragged along Queen's Road until his left ankle broke and he fell into the road, this was at the junction of Church Road." The driver of the G-reg vehicle then failed to stop. As well as a broken ankle, Sgt Tye suffered cuts and abrasions to his right ankle, legs, shoulder, hands and head. He was treated at the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Well, and released on Thursday. Sussex Police is now appealing for information or witnesses to come forward who saw the incident. The driver is described as white, in his early 30s with short light-coloured hair A police spokeswoman said Sgt Tye was very lucky not to suffer worse injuries, as he had been carried along by the car for some distance.
