Farmer to tour Britain in tractor
The tractor was abandoned in a ditch in Glastonbury
A farmer who found an old tractor in a ditch plans to drive it around the UK to raise money for charity.
Terry Williams from Bruton, Somerset, hopes his 4,500-mile tractor trek will earn him a place in the record books. Mr Williams discovered the 50-year-old Ferguson machine - which he has christened Betsy - in a ditch in Glastonbury where it had been lying for 15 years. He has spent nine months restoring the machine to full working order and now hopes to use it to visit every lifeboat station in the country. The challenge is due to get underway in May, when Mr Williams and Betsy leave Wincanton for Burnham-on-Sea where they will begin their journey along the coast. Despite the vehicle's age, Mr Williams is confident Betsy will make it to the finish line. He hopes his journey will set a new world record for the longest journey on a vintage tractor - and raise money for four charities, the RNLI, CLIC, St Margaret's Hospice in Yeovil and the National Asthma Campaign.
