Children hurt in metal bar attack

A four-year-old girl has been kept in hospital overnight
A man suspected of attacking two children in Surrey has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The 47-year-old was arrested on Tuesday evening after the youngsters were hit with a hooked metal bar in Victoria Road, Horley.

A four-year-old girl has been kept in hospital overnight for treatment.

And a five-year-old boy has been released from hospital with minor injuries.

Three shop windows were also smashed during the incident.

A man was arrested near Victoria Road after members of the public who saw the attack called police.

Officers say they are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.
