Indonesian landslides kill 14
Several landslides triggered by heavy rain have engulfed a village on the Indonesian island of Java.
Police said at least 14 people died and many homes were destroyed. They said rescue workers were searching the site for villagers who were asleep when the landslides struck at Garut near Mandalawangi mountain. One report said a landslide had blocked the island's southern railway line, which connects Jakarta with cities in central Java. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
