Ambulance crews moved after strike tension

Paramedic crews have been moved to another station
Ambulance crews have been moved out of a Tyneside station they share with striking firefighters after alleged tensions between two two sides.

The North East Ambulance Service says it was forced to take action after senior officials were told "there was going to be trouble".

Ambulance drivers and paramedics and three appliances at the West Road station in Newcastle, have been moved to Throckley - about five miles away.

Paul Liversidge, director of accident and emergency services at the ambulance service, said tensions were running high at the Tyneside station.

Further problems

Mr Liversidge said: "We had early indications on Monday evening that there was some frustration between the ambulance service and fire service sides.

"We obviously did not want to fuel the situation or create any further problems.

"We therefore took the decision to move to an alternative site."

No-one from the Fire Brigades Union was available to comment.
