Disfigured patients 'had body image disorder'
Dr Agarwal denies serious professional misconduct
Two men who underwent a penis enlargement operations should never have had the surgery, the GMC has heard.
Cosmetic surgeon Dr Ravi Kant Agarwal, of Stockport, Greater Manchester denies serious professional misconduct. The men may have a form of body dysmorphia, giving them the false impression their penises were small, the hearing in Manchester was told. Each man had a larger than average penis and did not need the £3000 operation, Dr David Ralph, of UCLA in London, said. 'Felt manipulated' Dr Ralph said the procedure the men, Mr A and Mr B, underwent could never have worked as promised. The men complained the surgery left them disfigured. Dr Ralph told the GMC that the two men were not made fully aware of the complications that can arise during such an operation. Dr Ralph said complications such as lumpiness, as described by Mr A, were "well-known" to occur after the procedure. He told the GMC: "If patients were aware of this, they would be unlikely to give informed consent." Calm down Earlier Mr B told the hearing he felt manipulated on the several occasions he claimed he went to Dr Agarwal to complain. Mr B told the GMC: "He has this way of making you feel at ease, making you calm down. "I totally forgot about the complaint. He's got a way of manipulating you." The hearing continues. |
