Girl 'attempted to kill brother'
Court graphic
A 12-year-old girl has appeared in court charged with attempting to murder her nine-year-old brother.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is from South Shields, on South Tyneside.

She appeared before magistrates sitting as a youth court on South Tyneside on Tuesday morning.

It is alleged the offence took place at her family home three days ago.

The girl was remanded into the care of the local authority until 5 February, which is the next sitting of the youth court on South Tyneside.

The boy escaped uninjured from the alleged incident.
