Raging Grannies take to streets
Raging Granny
The Raging Grannies were formed in Canada
A group of Devon grandmothers have joined together to campaign against war and injustice.

Called the Raging Grannies, the Exmouth-based group staged their first performance on Tuesday to protest against a possible military strike against Iraq.

The women dress up in costume and perform specially-prepared songs and dance routines.

"We don't know of any other groups in Europe," said Mo Mooney, the group's organiser.

Mo Mooney: "It's empowering us"

"We are hoping this will inspire other women to make groups and go on from here.

"It is actually empowering us and making us feel we can get out on their street and say what we feel."

The group came together from existing organisations including the Quakers, local churches and the Exmouth and District Peace Group to protest against war and injustice.

The first Raging Grannies was formed in Canada in 1987.

There are now groups across the US and Australia.
