Family targeted in 'sectarian' attack
A brick was thrown through the car window
A family has escaped injury in a petrol bomb attack in County Antrim.
The incident happened at about 2245 GMT on Monday in the Ashley Park area of Dunmurry, on the outskirts of south Belfast. A Catholic couple and their two young children, including a 10-month-old baby, were in the house at the time of the attack. Two devices were thrown at the house, causing minor scorch damage. Police are treating the attack as sectarian.
SDLP assembly member Patricia Lewsley has condemned the attack. She said that she condemned "any attack on any family, particularly one that has young children in it". Ms Lewsley said: "It also will heighten tensions within the area considering that there are a number of Catholic families that live in and around Dunmurry." Detectives have appealed for anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to contact them. |
