Actress Winona Ryder has landed her first movie role since being convicted of shoplifting, entertainment newspaper Variety has reported.
The 31-year-old actress will appear in comedy Eulogy with Ray Romano, star of US television show Everybody Loves Raymond, says the paper. Ryder, whose last film was the comedy Mr Deeds opposite Adam Sandler, has been carrying out community service in Los Angeles since her conviction. She was also placed on three years' probation and fined after being convicted of stealing designer clothes and accessories from exclusive store Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills in 2001.
Ball jokes about marriage split DJ Zoe Ball has made light of her marriage troubles on her radio show by asking listeners to call in with the least appropriate song for her situation. Ball and her DJ husband Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, admitted they have been living separate lives after three years of marriage. She told he XFM listeners: "You've got to laugh or you'll cry." Among the songs suggested were Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now by The Smiths and Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division.
Viewers fail to Rise for revamped show The major revamp of Channel 4's early morning show Rise has failed to attract new viewers. The show returned with a new venue and presenters, including Iain Lee and comedy partners Mel and Sue. But just 200,000 viewers tuned in - half the number who watched children's programmes Bear In The Big Blue House and Noddy on Five. But a spokesman for the show said the relaunch had been low-key to allow it to find its feet, and that it had retained the same amount of viewers as in its previous format.
Baby girl for newsreader Nightingale Newsreader Mary Nightingale has given birth to a girl, it has been revealed.
Molly weighed in at seven-and-a-half pounds and was born by non-emergency caesarean section as the baby was in the breech position. Mary and husband Paul Fenwick said: "We are absolutely thrilled and delighted by our little baby girl." Mary plans to return to her newscasting role as co-presenter of the ITV Evening News in due course.
Jackie Chan admits stunt doubles Martial arts movie star Jackie Chan has admitted he has started using body doubles for some of his stunts. The 48-year-old actor, who is currently starring in The Tuxedo, is famed for performing his own stunts and breaking bones in the process. "I will use stunt doubles if you ask me to ride an F-16 jet fighter, or to jump over a series of hurdles with a crazy horse, or to perform two 720-degree somersaults," Chan said. "But one somersault, I'll do it myself. I will do what I could do and I won't do anything that is out of my capability."
Everett to chair French film festival panel British actor Rupert Everett is to head the jury at the Paris Film Festival. The event will have a distinctly British flavour as festival chief Louisa Maurin said the UK would be "guest of honour". The French actress Isabelle Adjani is to be president of honour. The event will be held in Paris between 24 March and 1 April.
Egyptian singer jailed over marriage fight Egyptian pop star Hakim has been sent to jail for a week for beating his wife, according to reports. The AFP agency said the singer will serve one week in prison and pay a fine of 50 Egyptian pounds (£6). A Cairo court also sentenced his first wife Marwa Ibrahim to one week in jail for vandalising the apartment of Hakim's secretary after learning the two were having an affair and she had become his second wife. |
