Residents rally after fatal mugging
Lillian Miller was attacked just after Christmas.
The residents of a Leeds street where an elderly woman was fatally mugged claim they are determined to fight crime in the area.
Lilian Miller, who was 83, died almost one month after being attacked near her home on Roundhay Grove, Harehills, on 27 December 2002. A murder investigation is now underway into what police describe as a "callous attack on a frail woman". The death of Mrs Miller, who was described as a "lovely woman" by her neighbours, has convinced residents to form a neighbourhood watch scheme. Neighbourhood watch organiser Peter Webster told the BBC: "It is not a street where you want to bring up your children. "The residents are not prepared to accept it." Mr Webster said drug dealers operated openly on the streets during the day and attracted addicts to the area.
