Decision expected on care homes' future
Only one home is now set to close
A final decision on the future of four care homes for the elderly in Bradford is expected to be made by councillors on Tuesday afternoon.
It was announced six months ago that the homes - in Allerton, Bowling, Clayton and Holme Wood - would close. But now Bradford Council's executive are being asked to vote on revised proposals that will save three of them. The new plans have come in response to a campaign by friends and relatives of residents. Council listening Now just one home - Greenacres in Clayton - is set for definite closure. It has been recommended that Woodward Court in Allerton and Broadstones at Holme Wood are kept open and redeveloped as units for the elderly mentally infirm. The future of Meadowcroft in Bowling is still under scrutiny and will be reviewed in 18 months. Councillor Kris Hopkins said: "I hope this will give people in the district confidence that the council does listen to what people really want."
