Flood defence plans approved
Floods in Thrapston, 2003
The town suffered flooding in the New Year
Plans for a new flood defence system for the Northamptonshire town of Thrapston look set to be approved.

The Environment Agency's Welland and Nene Local Flood Defence Committee has voted to approve the £500,000 scheme.

Negotiations with landowners and other consultations on the plans will begin shortly.

Building work should be carried out next year.

Thrapston was badly affected by the floods of Easter 1998, and also by heavy rainfall early this year.

The proposals to protect the town include improving river embankments, plus defences for individual properties.

Improvements would also be made to flood warning systems for people living in the valley.
