Parents snub school meetings
Several schools could be merged or closed
Only a handful of parents have attended a series of public meetings in Bristol to discuss the future of primary education in the city.
A dozen people have so far turned out to air their opinions, with 200 more responding by questionnaire. The city council is urging more parents to come forward. Earlier in January, education leaders revealed plans for a massive re-organisation of the city's primary schools, several of which could close or be merged. Officials want to cut down on the number of half-empty classrooms in the city. Parents were given the chance to have their say in 11 public meetings, or via a questionnaire, ahead of any major changes. The public consultation runs until 21 February when the council will put together a long-term strategy.
