Funeral procession for dead policeman
Flowers and book of condolence
Many people left flowers where PC Walker was injured
Police officers will walk through the streets of Nottingham as part of the funeral cortege for a colleague who was killed trying to arrest a suspected car thief.

PC Ged Walker, 42, who was married with two children, died in the Queen's Medical Centre, in Nottingham, following the incident in the Bulwell area of the city.

A funeral service for the dog handler, who had served with Nottinghamshire police since 1978, will take place on Friday with a procession passing through the city.

The officer had been attempting to stop a taxi in St Albans Road, Bulwell, on 7 January when he suffered critical head injuries.

Police confirmed that a funeral cortege, including officers from all four divisions of the force, will leave from Nottingham Castle at 1330 GMT.

It will pass along Friar Lane, Maid Marian Way, Park Row, East Circus Street, Wellington Street and North Circus Street, arriving at St Barnabas Roman Catholic Cathedral, in Derby Road, at 1400 GMT.

PC Walker's colleagues from the dog section will act as pall bearers and the service will be taken by the Rev Chris Lewis, a former Nottinghamshire police officer.

Hospital equipment

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed the service will be closed to members of the public but broadcast by loud speaker on to North Circus Street.

She said : "PC Walker's family would prefer donations instead of flowers.

"The PC Ged Walker Fund has been set up and any donations will go towards buying equipment for the intensive care unit at the Queen's Medical Centre."

A 25-year-old man has been remanded in custody accused of murder.
