New asylum protest
Caythorpe Court
The centre would be in an old agricultural college
A campaign to prevent an asylum centre being built in a Lincolnshire village is gathering momentum.

Over the weekend, members of an action group entered the grounds of Caythorpe Court near Grantham, to protest about the proposals.

The Angel Group, which owns the former agricultural college, says, as yet, no decision has been made about its future.

But concerns have heightened after work started on Monday morning to convert a three star hotel in Kent into an induction centre for asylum seekers.

So angry

Janet Norman, from the Caythorpe Action Group said they wanted their campaign to receive national attention but the demonstration was not planned:

She said: "It was very, very spontaneous. A group of villagers took themselves up to the court to register a protest.

"We feel unless we begin to motivate people we will lose this argument.

"I have never trespassed on anything knowingly in my life but we were so angry everybody just went up there to find some security guards and register a complaint."

The action group says the village is too small and isolated to be able to cope with a large influx of asylum seekers.
