Food safety
Independent food safety expert John Barrow
Independent expert John Barrow answered your questions
Unfit meat could be on sale in UK shops because a small minority of farmers are cutting corners and flouting BSE regulations, a BBC investigation has revealed.

Do you think more could be done to prevent unfit meat entering the food chain? Would stricter controls and tighter regulation be enforceable?

Independent food safety expert John Barrow answered questions in a live interactive discussion following Crooked Britain: Unfit Meat, which was broadcast on BBC Two, Wednesday, 28 January 2003 at 2000 GMT.

John Barrow has worked in the food industry for more than 30 years.

He has been a European Union advisor on food safety in many countries, including the former Soviet Union.

He has also acted as a food safety consultant for a number of airlines, including Virgin and Singapore Airlines.

Mr Barrow has also written four books on food hygiene for the hospitality industry. His latest 'The Pub/Restaurant-Keeping it Safe and Legal' was published by foodhygiene.com in January 2001.

Crooked Britain: Unfit Meat was broadcast on BBC Two on Tuesday, 28 January, 2003 at 2000 GMT. The programme will be repeated on BBC One on Wednesday, 16 April, 2003 at 1930 BST.
