Crash victim is identified
A woman who died in a road accident on the A1307 Linton bypass on Monday has been named.
She was Kay Bunday, 26, of Arbury Road, Cambridge. Her silver Volkswagen Golf collided with a yellow Mercedes tipper truck and she died at the scene. The road was closed for five hours as a result of the accident, which happened shortly before 1500 GMT on Monday afternoon. Police are appealing for witnesses.
Hundreds of students volunteer Hundreds of Cambridge University students are taking part in a week of voluntary activities. Around 600 undergraduates are helping children, elderly people, disabled and homeless people. Some academic departments at Cambridge have also introduced programmes that encourage students to work in local schools. Student Community Action estimate that more than 50 voluntary organisations across Cambridge are being helped during the week.
Fitness project seeks funding A district council hopes to extend a pilot scheme which encourages people to keep fit by going on walks. The Healthy Walks project in St Ives may expand to Eynesbury, Ramsey and Oxmoor if it is given additional funding. It runs twice-weekly walking sessions for groups of 10 to 15 people. Huntingdonshire District Council wants to employ a full-time officer to develop the programme and lead the walks.
Local police fund intelligence scheme Cambridgeshire police have joined with constabularies in Norfolk and Lincolnshire to keep an intelligence scheme running. The Fens Project collects data from all three forces to find crime hot spots. Police said the programme has been successful, but the Government has withdrawn funding for the scheme. The three forces have combined their resources to keep it running. |
