Sewer death teenager's family speak out
Aidan Botfield
Aidan Botfield's family released a statement
The family of a teenager whose body was found in a 15-foot deep sewer in Worcester have spoken of their devastation at the 18-year-old's death.

Aidan Botfield's body was recovered from a derelict pump house in the city centre by a team of specialist firefighters on Friday.

Crews found him at 1223 GMT and the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene, near to the junction of Tybridge Street and Hylton Road

On Monday, his father Bryan Botfield said the whole family was "extremely distressed".

"We just keep asking why this happened but all we can do now is wait for answers and hopefully the police investigation will give these," he said.

'Supportive friends'

"Aidan was a fun loving teenager, who was kind hearted and just lots of fun - he was always smiling.

"We would like to thank all of Aidan's friends who have been very supportive. I would also like to thank them for all of the flowers they have laid in Hylton Road and the candles that I know have been lit at the Cathedral in his memory."

A police spokeswoman said officers were keen to trace the occupants of a car seen near to the pump house at about 0230 GMT on Friday.

She added: "In particular we would like to speak to the occupants of a car which had either broken down or been left close to the pump house at that time."
