Police are appealing for information after a hit- and-run in North Somerset left a woman in intensive care.

The 58-year-old, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, was hit by a dark grey Toyota Camry and carried for 10 ft before being left in the road.

She suffered serious head and leg injuries and is in the intensive care unit of the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

The incident took place on Saturday at 1200 GMT on Westfield Road, Backwell.

Driver swore

The woman was getting into her car with her 71-year-old husband when the Toyota appeared from the direction of Westfield Close.

It collided with the woman before hitting her husband.

He was pinned between the two cars, but remained on his feet and has been released from hospital after suffering cuts and bruises.

The driver was heard to swear before speeding off along Moorland Road.
