Star cars cross the border
Pierce Brosnan with James Bond's Austin Martin Vanquish
The museum has several cars from James Bond films
A Cumbrian museum featuring some of the world's best-known movie vehicles is moving across the border to Scotland.

The Keswick-based Cars of the Stars museum is currently home to 20 classic cars from film and television.

Among them are a selection of cars from James Bond films, three Batmobiles, the pink Rolls Royce of Lady Penelope from Thunderbirds and Del and Rodney's yellow Reliant Robin from Only Fools and Horses.

But museum owner Peter Nelson says he needs more space to display another 40 cars in his possession.

Harry Potter's car
New addition: Harry Potter's flying Ford Anglia

Part of the classic collection will now go on show in Edinburgh.

Mr Nelson says the move is needed if all the cars are to be displayed.

He said: "Because of the size of the site I have in Keswick I can't actually show everything I have.

"But I have now found a site up in Edinburgh at the Ingliston showground where I will be able to house the other vehicles."

The museum began in 1982, when Granada Television asked Mr Nelson if they could borrow his MG sports car for use in a TV series.

Keswick safe

He decided to create a museum around famous vehicles and bought an old garage in Keswick to house the collection.

One of the newest exhibits is Harry Potter's famous flying Ford Anglia from the Chamber of Secrets film.

Mr Nelson said: "Whatever happens I won't be closing Keswick.

"I will be switching the cars between Keswick and Scotland, although most of the James Bond cars will stay in Scotland."

A series of rallies in which the cars will be driven through Keswick are planned for later in the year.
