Drivers quizzed over man's death
Police road block
Police say drivers may have seen what happened
Road blocks were set up by police to question drivers following the murder of a man killed as he tried to prevent his van being stolen.

David Warrilow, 37, suffered serious head injuries when he was run over outside G B Singh's newsagent in Willow Way, Chelmsley Wood, near Solihull, last Monday.

The incident happened between 0630 GMT and 0700 GMT.

On Monday morning, police stopped more than 130 cars, buses and pedestrians in the hope of finding key witnesses.

As a result they traced two men who were at the scene and who may have witnessed the incident. Both were due to be interviewed later.

But Detective Inspector Gary Davison, who is leading the murder hunt, said he is still trying to trace a person who made a 999 call from a telephone box in nearby Bosworth Drive shortly after the incident.

'Open mind'

"He called ambulance control and said there had been an accident," he said.

"This man has not come forward and we would urge him to do so.

"We do believe that they have seen something or they may be involved, but at this stage we are keeping an open mind."

He added: "We are pleased with this morning's operation as it would appear two further people who may have vital information about what happened have been found."

Mr Warrilow's parents described him as a family man who "doted on his children".

The father-of-two, a welder who worked for Midland Welding, had left his keys in the ignition to go into a shop for a newspaper and a packet of mints.

His van was later found abandoned just 500 yards away in Winchester Avenue, near his home.
