Awards for bravery in North East
The awards will be made by the force's chief constable
The outstanding actions of members of the public and of police officers in the North East are to be recognised at an awards ceremony on Monday.
Northumbria's Chief Constable Crispian Strachan will be presenting the medals and certificates. The bravery of a variety of people will be recognised, such as Sergeant Craig Maxwell. He took the lead in rescuing a car driver from his burning vehicle which had crashed on the Military Road in the west of Newcastle in June 2002. Jumper saved He will receive the Royal Humane Society's bronze medal. Tynemouth firefighter Ian Black will get a Chief Constable's commendation for his part in pulling a woman back onto the Tyne Bridge after she had tried to jump. And three Constables working in east Newcastle will also receive the Chief Constables commendation for overpowering a man who set fire to a house. A total of 32 people will be honoured at the presentation.
