Vote could end strike action
First North Western train
First North Western drivers have held a series of strikes
Rail passengers in north Wales will find out on Monday whether more strikes among drivers will take place.

The outcome of a ballot of hundreds of drivers on the latest pay offer from First North Western is due to be announced.

There has already been a series of 48-hour strikes during the dispute, the most recent on 1 January.

According to First North Western, the company offered Aslef drivers a 19% pay increase over three years to be partly funded through increased productivity measures.

Rejected

This was rejected by two-to-one and negotiations failed to halt two pre-Christmas strikes.

First North Western brought forward the time in which the pay increase was to be phased in and Aslef held a new ballot of its members with the result expected on Monday.

The company runs services from Holyhead to Crewe, Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Wrexham to Bidston, totalling 1,500 trains a day from Monday to Saturday and 500 trains on Sundays.

Vote

In a separate dispute, Wales and Borders' train drivers will vote on Monday on a fresh pay offer from their employers, which could give them a pay increase of up to 39% over five years.

Aslef has recommended that drivers accept that offer.
