Appeal after gun attack death
Man was shot during a party
Man was shot during a party
Detectives investigating the murder of a man in County Down have released the name of a man they want to question.

Richard Hamill, 28, was killed in a gun attack in the St Gallen Court area of Bangor in the early hours of Sunday.

Detectives have said they believe 34-year-old William Moore, also known as Billy the Boxer, can assist them with their enquiries.

He is said to be 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build, with short dark hair and a broken nose.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy McComb: Investigating the killing

Detectives believe he may be armed and they have advised members of the public not to approach him.

Detective Chief Inspector Roy McComb said a definite motive had not yet been established.

A baby was asleep in an adjoining room at the time of the killing.

The victim was shot twice in the head while he was in the bathroom of the house where he was attending a party.

Neighbours reported hearing an ambulance at about 0400 GMT.

It is understood the victim was a single man who lived at Cleland Park Central in Bangor.

Detectives have interviewed some of those at the party, but want to speak to others also there.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of North Down has called for guns to be taken out of the community following the murder of Mr Hamill.

'Illegal weapons'

Speaking on Monday, Alan Graham said the root of the problem lay with paramilitaries.

"I would see the terrorist organisations providing an infrastructure for violence and for crime," he said.

Mr Graham said there needed to be a campaign by the police to "call in the illegal guns".

The police in Bangor have appealed for information about the incident and asked anyone who was in the St Gallen Court area at the time of the shooting to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 028 91454444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
