Vera Mary Moore: Raider stole her purse
An elderly widow has been discovered strangled in her home.

The body of Vera Mary Moore, 83, was found by her daughter.

Mrs Moore was last seen at 1630 GMT on Thursday when she left her daughter's house to walk to her own home in Beeston, Nottingham.

She was expected at her daughter's home next morning, but never arrived, and her body was discovered soon afterwards.

Stolen purse

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was strangulation.

There was no evidence of forced entry to the house, but a black leather purse is believed to have been stolen.

Officers have launched a murder investigation and a full forensic examination of the house has been carried out.

House-to-house inquiries are also taking place and police have increased uniform patrols in the area to provide assurance for local residents.

Superintendent Nick Holmes, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "There is no sign of forced entry to the house so it is difficult to establish the motive at this time.

"I am not aware of any weapons that were used and we are keeping an open mind."
