Pupils stay home after arson attack

Nearly 100 firefighters tackled the flames

Hundreds of pupils will be unable to attend school next week because of an arson attack.

Wheldon Comprehensive in Carlton, Nottinghamshire, was badly damaged by fire last month.

Children in Years 7 and 8 at the school have been told to stay home until 27 January because new mobile classrooms have not arrived.

Lessons will go ahead for students in Years 9 to 13.

50-feet flames

The school has been attacked arsonists 20 times since September.

In the most recent blaze, on 16 December, more than 100 firefighters were sent to the school on the outskirts of Nottingham.

Witnesses said flames could be seen 50 feet above school buildings.

The school's three-storey main block, including the library, was engulfed in flames.
