Bolton celebrates 750 years
Anniversary celebrations have continued all week
A slice of history is on offer in Bolton on Saturday as the town celebrated 750 years since it was granted a Royal charter.
A medieval market was due to be the centrepiece of the celebrations that were continuing over the weekend. The street market was being held in Churchgate, the oldest part of the town. Events to mark the milestone anniversary have been taking place throughout the past week. Special lantern Authentic sights and sounds from the era were to be recreated with the likes of a town crier and a Punch and Judy show. Other performers were appearing in period costume On Sunday morning the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton are to light a lantern, which they will take to special church services throughout the day. Later on in the day a procession of standard bearers and children will lead people through the town centre, followed by a thanksgiving service in Bolton Parish Church.
