Memorial offered for unknown baby
Flowers at riverside
The infant was found by the River Teign
A South Devon firm of stonemasons has offered to provide a memorial to an unknown baby girl whose body was found by the River Teign.

The little girl's body was discovered wrapped in a bag at Combinteignhead.

It is believed she died a few hours after being born.

Her mother has never been traced.

Williams and Triggs has now offered to provide a headstone for the little girl, who police named Amanda.

Robert Williams said he was very moved by the story of the child's death.

He said: "They are very tragic circumstances. I have got two children myself, one of whom is only one-year-old so it does hit home quite substantially."

An inquest into the infant's death earlier this week recorded an open verdict.
