Family at house fire funeral burgled
Thieves broke a rear window to enter the house
A family have spoken of their anger after their house was burgled while they were at the funeral of a girl killed in a Christmas house fire
Ian Smith, 34, and his seven-year-old daughter Holly, died after the fire at their home in Eleanor Street, Grimsby, on Boxing Day. The Ashtons had just returned from Holly's funeral on 7 January when they found their home had been ransacked. The thieves stole money as well as some of the children's Christmas presents. One of Dianne Ashton's five daughters was a classmate of Holly's. Mrs Ashton said of the thieves: "I hate them for what they have done to the children. "Adults can cope with certain things, but having seen my girls running around their bedrooms distraught at finding more things taken, I think they are scum." |
