Lorry driver escapes hijackers
Police are now hunting six masked men
A driver had to leap from his lorry containing a haul of computer games, DVDs, videos and CDs to escape a gang of masked hijackers.
The six men, whose faces were covered by scarves and hats, ambushed the lorry, as it left an industrial estate in Slough, Berkshire. The robbers separated the trailer from its cab and attached it to another truck, in which they made their escape. Police say the goods they stole were of "substantial value". Driver 'shocked' Although no weapons were seen, the driver has told police he felt sufficiently intimidated to jump out of his vehicle and escape. His blue Scania articulated truck was blocked by the gang's white van as it left the Colne Industrial Estate on the Old Bath Road in Colnbrook at 0730 GMT on Monday. The blue cab was later recovered by police outside the Golden Cross pub in Poyle Road, on the Poyle Trading Estate. DS Kevin Bishop of Slough CID said: "Although he was not physically hurt, the driver of the stolen lorry was treated in hospital for shock. "The incident happened very quickly but this is a busy junction and there was a lot of traffic in the area at the time. "If anyone saw the hijack or any of the vehicles involved, or if they are offered computer games and DVDs for sale, they should contact me." |
