More cash for drug treatment
Class A drugs are a growing problem
More than £800,000 is being earmarked to help drug addicts in Cumbria.
The government has approved £828,000 for the county's Drug Action Team (DAT) to invest in services over the next three years. The money will be spent on community-based drug treatment services in the county. Sean McCollum, one of the co-ordinators, told the BBC heroin abuse remains the biggest concern. He said: "The extra money will help us provide an even more comprehensive drug treatment service, increasing the support we can offer to drug users and helping them to overcome their problems. "This can then only have a positive effect on the harm that drug misuse does in this county both to users, and the wider community." Cumbria Drug Action Team is a local body, made up of NHS trusts, the county council and criminal justice agencies.
