Tourist missing after lake swim
Mr Cooper's clothes were found at Lake Atitlan
A man is feared drowned while on holiday in Guatemala with his girlfriend.
Andrew Cooper, 38, from Disley, in Cheshire, was last seen on Friday, after he told his girlfriend he was going to swim in Lake Atitlan in the Solola region of the country. Mr Cooper's clothes were found next to the spot where he jumped into the water. It is feared he may have drowned or been hit by a speedboat. New home Despite a search by Guatemalan police and divers his body has not been recovered. Friends and family have since flown to the country to help search for Mr Cooper, an insurance salesman. A spokesman for the Foreign Office said Mr Cooper is "missing assumed drowned" and that the chances of him being found alive were slim. Mr Cooper had flown to Guatemala with his girlfriend to celebrate their impending engagement. It is believed the couple were shortly to move into a new home together. |
