Landmark damaged by fire
India Buildings, Liverpool
The building houses a number of businesses
An investigation is under way into a fire which has damaged part of Liverpool's India Buildings.

The historic office block was temporarily closed following the fire, which broke out at about 0640 GMT on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived after being alerted by an automatic alarm.

Crews tackled the fire on the fourth floor on the Brunswick Street side of the building.

Computers destroyed

A large open plan office, which is used by the Home Office accounts unit, has been badly damaged.

About 100 computer terminals have been destroyed.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, but it is not thought it was started deliberately.

The building was reopened after a short closure on Wednesday morning.
