Canaries hold AGM outside
About 300 shareholders were at the ground
Norwich City made football history last night when it became the first club to hold its annual general meeting outside.
Directors chose to hold the meeting on the terraces at the Carrow Road ground in case all the club's 6,000 shareholders decided to turn up. In the event, just 300 braved the sub-zero temperatures to attend - but the meeting was nonetheless declared a success. Majority shareholder and celebrity cook Delia Smith said: "We've all enjoyed it immensely - we've had a great giggle really."
She said the club's directors "had not realistically expected" all the shareholders to turn out. "By law you have to have accommodation for 6,000 even if 6,000 don't come, so that's why we did it like this." Last year the club held a share issue to raise money to plug the gap left after the collapse of ITV Digital. The move raised £2.3m - and created many new shareholders.
