Final plea over mystery body
Press conference
Police displayed an artist's impression of the man
Police trying to identify a mystery man whose body was found on Skye more than a year ago have launched a final appeal for help.

Detectives in the Highlands are anxious to find out who the man is before his remains are released for burial.

The middle-aged man was found in a makeshift shelter near Sleat on the south of the island in October 2001.

However, there were no documents among his possessions.

Northern Constabulary want to identify the man
All police have had to go on is an artist's impression drawn from forensic evidence and his clothing - a distinctive sweatshirt showing Skye's global co-ordinates.

Despite lengthy inquiries across Britain, including an article in the British Dental Journal, officers from Northern Constabulary still have no leads.

A post-mortem examination failed to reveal the cause of death.

One theory is that the man chose the area as a tranquil place to die.

His funeral is scheduled to take place next month at Sleat Cemetery.

Local people believe it is an apt resting place because it was where he spent his final days.
